In the Gospel reading on July 27, Jesus taught his disciples what we refer to as The Lord’s Prayer. In reflecting on The Lord’s Prayer, I thought about intercessionary prayer. How we are God’s eyes, voice, hands, and feet in the world, so when we pray for something or someone – peace, healing, care – since it is on our hearts we should do what we can to make that happen. To be the action. To illustrate, I rewrote The Lord’s Prayer as if God were speaking to us. Consider:
My children on earth,
holy are your names.
bring about my kingdom,
bring about my will,
on earth as in heaven.
Give others their daily bread.
Forgive others their sins,
As I forgive you when you sin against me.
Love others during their times of trial,
and guide them away from evil.
Then my kingdom, my power,
and my glory will be known on earth,
now and forever.
Amen.
