A Community of Tacoma

All who believed were together and had all things in common; they would sell their possessions and goods and distribute the proceeds to all, as any had need. Acts 2:44

Dear Fellow Parishioners,

I am inspired by what’s happening at Christ Church.  When I look around our congregation and observe all that is happening I can see that God is at work here. I am inspired by the group of young adults that are gathering among us.  As a group they led Evening Prayer at Table. David Pierce stepped up to lead Morning Prayer.

I am inspired by the Compassion and Safety Workshop we hosted in Wells Hall in July.  Lizbeth Adams from the Bishop’s Office shared ways to safely accompany homeless people.  From looking them in the eye and saying hello to having a cup of coffee together, we can accept them as our neighbors. Thirty people attended the workshop including representatives from two neighboring churches.

I am inspired by the Power of Two nonprofit which shares two of our rooms in Wells Hall. Dax Foxx runs children’s groups twice a week and a women’s group once a week. Power of Two also sponsored a successful Free Backpack Giveaway August 28, 2025. Wells Hall and our courtyard were filled with children and families. Our congregation provided some of the backpacks and supplies. Dax reported that 647 people attended.

Because we share things in common we can support these unique opportunities. Our annual campaign gives us the opportunity to continue to support our common life. When you receive your letter from the Stewardship Chairman please pray about your continuing commitment to Christ Church as we seek to serve Christ in all people.
