A Community of Tacoma

Newcomers

Visiting us for the first time

Christ Church sits on the border of multiple distinct Tacoma neighborhoods, and we aspire to be a place where the diversity of Tacoma is at home. At Christ Church, our doors are open wide to everyone, regardless of race, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, socio-economic circumstance, or religious background or beliefs.

In seeking to be like God in the world, we are an affirming congregation, and we support and embrace the LGBTQIA+ community in all our ministries and programs.

We are a congregation that practices radical hospitality: our altar is open to everyone – no exceptions.

At Christ Church, wear what you want, stay as long as you want. If you’re unfamiliar with our traditions, simply let the singing and prayers of the community carry you forward. Our worship gathers together the hearts and prayers of everyone present and involves call and response between leaders and all assembled. We follow the worship pattern of the Book of Common Prayer (BCP), though you will find most of the shared responses in this bulletin, in bold type.

We use our bodies! Worship is meant to include all of our senses, so we sit, stand, kneel, and even process around the worship space. We sing, we speak, we wait in silence. Sometimes, we smell the incense. We taste, see and smell that God is good. If you aren’t sure what to do, don’t worry, do what feels comfortable

We’d love to know more about your interest in Christ Church. Clergy and members of our parish are happy to answer any questions you have. If you fill in a welcome card or send us an email, we can be in touch with you for further conversation.
