A Warm Welcome to Our Interim Director of Music

Please welcome Dr. Paul Tegels as Christ Church’s interim director of music. His talents as an organist and choral conductor and his deep roots in the Tacoma music community provided an easy decision for our search team and the choir’s enthusiastic endorsement. We were impressed with his friendly spirit and an easy adapting to the choir’s needs during his audition.
Paul knows of Christ Church’s commitment to music in our worship and is excited to help carry that forward, post-pandemic. His connections in the community offer an easy transition for arranging special events such as a resumption of Fridays at Noon concerts and the use of our sanctuary by outside musical groups. Paul himself has been a guest organist during past Fridays at Noon, so is very familiar with the Brombaugh organ and its temperament.
Paul is a native of The Netherlands where he graduated from the Music Conservatory of Amersfort. He attended the New England Conservatory in Boston graduating with an Artist Diploma in Organ Performance. He holds a PhD in Organ Performance and a Master’s in Choral Conducting from the University of Iowa.
Since 2002 and continuing, Paul serves as University Organist at Pacific Lutheran University, where he also serves as Associate Professor of Music.
God certainly provided.
