White Christian Nationalism with Seth Dowland.
A three-session series exploring the history and current reality of White Christian Nationalism in the United States, followed by two session on Christian Supersessionism, the original “replacement” theology.
Seth Dowland teaches courses in PLU’s International Honors, First-Year Experience, Religion, and Gender, Sexuality, and Race Studies programs. His classes offer interdisciplinary perspectives on American religions, with particular emphasis on the ways religion interacts with gender, race, politics, and violence. His research focuses on the intersection of religion, gender, and American politics in the twentieth century.
Christian Supersessionism with The Rev’d Maria McDowell
Christian Supersessionism is the original “great replacement” theory, which undergirds racist and nationist ideologies. We will discuss the Christian foundations for supersessionism, and how it seeps into our Lenten worship.
